This was painted for Johnny Mayday after he and I drove out to Seattle for the first time when he first moved to Seattle from Tampa.  On the drive, we passed through Oklahoma, and all of the brownness of Oklahoma.  There were, though, pretty little flowers growing along the roadside, which stood out against the monotone of the highway.

We drove from Tallahassee, Florida to Seattle, Washington in three-and-a-half days.

This panting was destroyed in a fire which consumed Johnny Mayday’s apartment and belongings in 1999.
