Oil on Canvas

I was living with my step-sister in my Grandparents’ condominium in Bradenton, Florida , Melissa, in 1996.  My Grandparents had moved to an “elder care facility” and Missy and I moved into their place in the “adult living community.”  We were the youngest people living there by an easy 40 years.  As you can imagine, it was a quiet nice community :-)

My Grandparents had this terrible painting that had been hanging above their couch for as long as I can remember. I got the go-ahead from them to paint over it, and thus was created this painting.

I painted it on the porch, in the hot Florida night.  There was a light on one of the palm trees outside of the porch, and it cast a shadow onto the canvas that looked to me like the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.  In addition to that, they had these little bird stickers on the window which also cast a shadow, completing the scene.  You can see them in the upper-right of the panting.

I basically traced the shadows with color.
