This piece began with a photo contributed by Paul Cooper, one of my friends and co-workers at Avenue A | Razorfish. It really was a great photo to start with. Paul took it using a digital camera in the bathroom of his apartment. I was able to mirror the background which got rid of a lot of the clutter of shaving cream, hair brushes, etc, in the background. And by jacking up the saturation and applying some particular blurs and masks, feel I was able to create a great, moody piece. One that was printed, I adhered it to clayboard 8” x 8” square. Over that, I apply layers of acrylic medium to give it depth. Some pieces require more layering and the use of acetate for transparent images, but “High” was a snap.
